Gallery - birds

Most of my work involves the representation of birds - this is my focus. I try to give some pieces a true-to-life naturalistic appearance but for other work I use more interpretive concepts, including abstract or unusually-coloured elements to give a different flavour to the piece. For some of the fine detailing I use enamels which I paint on, dry, then cut away with a scalpel to give sharp-edged details. I often use use 3D glass layering and slumping techniques to give added depth, and I apply, manipulate and melt glass frit (granules) and powders onto the surface of the piece when cold then fuse this at relatively low temperatures ('only' 720C!) to enhance surface textures.
